Recipes: connect your menu to inventory

Updated July 4, 2026

A recipe is the bill of materials behind a menu item: this size of this dish uses this much rice, this much chicken, this much sauce. The Recipes tab in Catalog is where you wire it up.

  • Per size — each size carries its own recipe scaling, so a full tray draws down more stock than a half tray.
  • Per modifier option — add-ons carry their own ingredient lines too.
  • Removable ingredients — mark an ingredient as removable and the customer-facing "no onions" choice is generated for you automatically, staying in sync with the recipe. Want light / normal / extra amounts on that ingredient too? Turn on the amount selector for that line — those extra choices are opt-in, not part of the automatic step.

Recipes pay off most alongside Inventory (Pro plan): sales deplete stock automatically and your true food cost per item comes from real ingredient prices instead of a guess. Building recipes as you set up the menu is much easier than retrofitting them later.
