How refunds affect your balance

Updated July 4, 2026

Card refunds always go back to the customer's original card — there's no store-credit sleight of hand. What happens on your side:

Full refund of a card order

  • The customer gets 100% of what they paid, including tax and tip.
  • The amount you received for the order is pulled back from your Stripe balance.
  • You aren't charged the platform fee a second time to issue a refund, and a full refund returns the customer 100% of what they paid. Whether your original 5% platform fee comes back to you on that refund depends on how the sale was charged — some payment paths reverse the fee along with the payment, others leave it with the platform, so the refund comes out of your balance. Before refunding a large sale in full, glance at the refund amount shown (or your Stripe balance afterward) so there's no surprise.

Partial refunds

Refund part of an order (a missing side, a comped drink) and a proportional share is pulled back from your balance — the rest of the order's money stays put.

Cash refunds

Cash orders are refunded from the drawer, in person. KitchenRush records the refund against the order so your reports stay honest, but no money moves through Stripe.

Note: If a refund lands in a different payout period than the original charge, the payout drill-down shows it as a negative line — that's why a deposit can be slightly smaller than the day's sales.
