Staff PINs and the time clock

Updated July 4, 2026

Once a tablet is set up, staff sign in with a personal PIN — a 4-to-6-digit code you assign from the Labor section — so the time clock and permissioned actions are tied to a specific person, without handing anyone a dashboard login. (Routine board taps like bumping a ticket run under the tablet's own session, so don't count on those being attributed to an individual.)

The time clock

The tablet includes a time clock: staff punch in and out with their PIN, and the hours flow into Labor's timesheets. A valid PIN always gets someone to the clock screen — nobody's locked out of reaching it. Punching in has one light schedule check: if an employee isn't on today's schedule, or is clocking in more than 10 minutes early, a manager approves it with their own PIN; on time or running late, a valid PIN clocks them straight in.

Requiring a clock-in to work the kitchen

You can require staff to be clocked in before the kitchen modules accept their PIN. With that on, working the ticket board and being on the clock can't drift apart — if the KDS is bumping tickets, someone's shift is running.

  • PINs must be 4-6 digits, and lazy ones (1234, 0000, 9876) are rejected outright.
  • No two active employees in a workspace can share a PIN.
  • Disable a PIN the moment someone leaves — it stops working immediately.
